This role supports the research and development of next-generation electromagnetic navigation technologies and other strategic programs. The team applies electromagnetic theory, physics-based modeling, sensing technologies, signal processing, and system-level design to improve the accuracy, reliability, and performance of navigation solutions used in clinical applications. The position works closely with cross-functional engineering teams from concept development through prototype validation and transfer into product development.
The Senior Principal Scientist will apply electromagnetic theory, system modeling, and engineering expertise to develop innovative navigation technologies and advance critical business programs. This role combines analytical modeling, software development, hardware integration, and hands-on experimentation to evaluate new concepts, develop prototypes, and deliver solutions that can be transitioned into product development.
This position may be based in Lafayette, Colorado or Fort Worth, Texas. The role follows a flexible onsite schedule of four days per week onsite and one day per week remote.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize electromagnetic navigation technologies using physics-based modeling, simulation, and experimental methods.
- Design, build, and evaluate prototypes to improve system accuracy, reliability, and performance.
- Apply electromagnetic theory, signal analysis, and system-level modeling to solve complex technical challenges.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, assess, and develop new technology concepts.
- Perform data analysis, simulation, and signal processing to characterize system behavior and guide design decisions.
- Assess emerging technologies through literature reviews, benchmarking, and proof-of-concept evaluations.
- Generate intellectual property through innovative technical solutions and invention disclosures.
- Transfer validated technologies, designs, and technical knowledge into product development programs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of engineering experience OR master's degree with 8+ years of engineering experience OR PhD with 6+ years of engineering experience.
- Experience applying electromagnetic theory, system modeling, and signal analysis to complex engineering problems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with software tools for modeling, simulation, data analysis, or algorithm development.
- Experience developing and testing hardware prototypes and integrated systems.Experience with magnetic field generation, coil design, sensor technologies, signal processing electronics, and control systems.
- Experience with analog and digital circuit design, printed circuit board (PCB) development, and embedded firmware.
- Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, C/C++, ANSYS, or COMSOL for modeling, simulation, and data analysis.
- Experience generating intellectual property through patents, invention disclosures, or novel technical innovations.
- Experience in medical device development or other regulated industries, including project planning, estimation, and requirements management.
- Advanced technical degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
