DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a Field Applications Scientist (FAS) to serve as a subject matter expert in protein expression workflows, with particular expertise in transient protein expression in mammalian cell systems. This role combines deep scientific expertise with customer engagement, training, troubleshooting, and commercial support to enable research and innovation and to optimize protein expression workflows.
As a member of the Cell Biology Field Applications team, you will work within a multidisciplinary, matrixed organization that includes commercial representatives, R&D scientists, Product Management, Market Development, and other technical specialists. In this role, responsibilities will include providing pre- and post-sales scientific support, delivering seminars and demonstrations, conducting internal and external training, and partnering with customers to address complex workflow challenges. The role will also help connect protein expression with adjacent and downstream workflows, including protein purification, characterization, and analysis.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Advanced Degree plus 5 years of experience, or Bachelor's Degree plus 7 years of experience with relevant hands-on experience in protein expression workflows.
• Advanced practical knowledge of transient protein expression, transfection and delivery, and protein production using mammalian cell systems.
• Demonstrated expertise in technical problem-solving and method development for optimizing protein expression workflows, including cell culture conditions, transfection parameters, expression conditions, scale-up, harvest, and assessment of protein yield and quality.
• Ability to translate complex scientific concepts into practical recommendations for customers with varying levels of technical expertise.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, presentation and training capabilities for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal teams and external customers.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a results-oriented environment.
• Willingness to travel up to 50-75% throughout the assigned territory, including customer sites, conferences, and internal meetings.
• Fluent English required; additional languages beneficial
• Valid driver's license and passport required for travel
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
• Experience with common downstream protein workflows is strongly preferred, including protein purification and characterization, protein folding, aggregation, post-translational modifications, and assessment of protein quality or function.
• Experience with suspension cell culture and scale-up workflows is highly desirable.
• Experience with multiple protein-expression modalities, such as antibodies, recombinant proteins, difficult-to-express proteins, or other biologically relevant targets, is desirable.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in Washington is $84,000.00–$125,000.00.
