Grad Intern – Target Safety Risk Weighting and Evaluation Strategies (Summer 2027)

What You Will Do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. During this program, you will help design and integrate tools that accelerate safety assessments from early discovery through post-marketing. You’ll build practical workflows that ingest molecular -omics datasets, clinical adverse event data, and internal data from pre-clinical models to surface mechanistic insights, score/weight potential safety concerns, and support non-clinical safety strategy while working closely with toxicologists, clinical safety scientists, computational biologists, and data engineering partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Use and refine AI tools for data aggregation, processing, interpretation, and automated report generation across safety workflows
  • Integrate multimodal data (public and internal)—including omics, preclinical findings, clinical safety signals, and real-world evidence—into coherent risk scoring/weighting methods to facilitate risk-based decision making
  • Generate mechanistic off-target hypotheses and pathway-level safety rationales to support internal safety evaluation strategies
  • Write clear documentation (methods, assumptions, limitations) and contribute to codebase for Target Safety Scoring Assessment
  • Present progress and findings to TSRS stakeholders; incorporate feedback to iterate on tools and analyses
  • Collaborate with TSRS team members to prioritize use cases with maximum impact

What you will gain:

  • Real-world impact: Contribute tools that directly inform target safety assessments and decision-making across Amgen programs.
  • End-to-end experience: From problem scoping and data ingestion to evaluation, validation, and communication—owning meaningful pieces of the workflow.
  • Scientific depth: Exposure to translational safety science, mechanistic biology, real-world datasets, and how multi-omics datasets and literature evidence build risk narratives.
  • Mentorship & feedback: Regular guidance from TSRS scientists, data scientists, and engineers; opportunities to present to stakeholders.
  • Career readiness: Mentored research experience working within a collaborative, mission-driven team at the intersection of AI and safety sciences.

Program Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be available to work a full-time schedule.
  • Expected continued enrollment in an accredited college or university following the internship program / co-op
  • Student must be located in the United States for the duration of the internship program
