Job Overview
IQVIA is seeking a CloudOps Engineer to support the operation, reliability, and continuous improvement of a cloud-based data platform. In this role, you will investigate and resolve complex technical incidents, troubleshoot data and API issues, automate operational processes, and collaborate with Engineering and DevOps teams to implement permanent solutions.
The ideal candidate brings practical experience supporting cloud platforms in AWS, working with large-scale data environments, and managing incidents from initial diagnosis through resolution. Experience with Databricks is preferred, although candidates with comparable big-data platform experience, such as Snowflake, are encouraged to apply.
Essential Functions
- Monitor, maintain, and support cloud-based data platforms hosted in AWS.
- Investigate and diagnose complex technical issues using AWS CloudWatch, log analysis, monitoring tools, and browser-based debugging utilities.
- Manage technical incidents throughout their lifecycle, providing timely updates and ensuring resolution in accordance with established SLAs.
- Identify root causes, implement fixes, validate changes, and contribute to permanent product and platform improvements.
- Execute SQL queries and develop basic Python scripts to validate data integrity, investigate discrepancies, and automate repetitive operational tasks.
- Troubleshoot large-scale data processing and platform issues in Databricks or comparable big-data environments.
- Analyze REST API behaviour using tools such as Postman and cURL to isolate integration errors and validate endpoints.
- Use automation and infrastructure-as-code tools, including Ansible and Terraform, to implement and manage platform changes.
- Collaborate with Engineering and DevOps teams through GitLab to report defects, recommend solutions, deploy changes, and track resolutions.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge-base articles.
- Communicate clearly and empathetically with customers and internal stakeholders during critical incidents and complex troubleshooting activities.
- Participate in an operational feedback loop by identifying issues, debugging problems, deploying solutions, and verifying that changes deliver lasting improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or another STEM-related field.
- Three to five years of experience in cloud operations, platform support, technical support, site reliability engineering, DevOps, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience supporting and maintaining cloud platforms in AWS.
- Experience monitoring, troubleshooting, and responding to incidents within large-scale data or software environments.
- Working knowledge of SQL for data investigation and analysis.
- Basic proficiency in Python for scripting and automation.
- Experience using monitoring and logging tools such as AWS CloudWatch.
- Understanding of REST APIs and experience with API testing tools such as Postman or cURL.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose technical problems, implement changes, and validate solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on customer empathy and disciplined incident management.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative, and continuously evolving environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Databricks, Snowflake, or another large-scale data processing platform.
- Understanding of big-data principles and distributed data processing.
- Experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
- Familiarity with DocumentDB or other NoSQL databases.
- Experience using GitLab for version control and awareness of CI/CD practices.
- Familiarity with React DevTools or comparable browser-based debugging tools.
- Understanding of authentication protocols, including OpenID and OAuth.
- Knowledge of HIPAA or other healthcare-related security and compliance requirements.
- Experience working in an Agile or Scrum environment using Jira or a similar work-management platform.
What Will Help You Succeed
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A proactive approach to incident ownership and resolution.
- The ability to communicate effectively with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
- A continuous-improvement mindset and an interest in learning new technologies.
- A desire to improve platform reliability through monitoring, automation, root-cause analysis, and permanent corrective action.
