Job Description

Join our collaborative sales team at Thermo Fisher Scientific as a Bioscience Account Manager (BAM) supporting our Life Sciences research portfolio, including leading brands such as Gibco, Invitrogen, Applied Biosystems, PeproTech, eBioscience, Molecular Probes, Dynabeads, and EVOS.

Our Biosciences portfolio includes reagents, consumables, and instrumentation spanning molecular biology, protein biology, cell biology, and cell culture.

As a Bioscience Account Manager, you will be responsible for developing and growing business across an assigned territory in Illinois. This is a newly established territory, creating an exciting opportunity to build customer relationships, develop new business, expand existing accounts, and establish a strong commercial presence across the geography.

The BAM is a key part of our commercial organization, leading customer-facing sales activities including demand generation, prospecting, account mapping, opportunity development, and closing. You will work closely with technical specialists, channel partners, and other Thermo Fisher Scientific commercial teams to connect customers with solutions that help them advance their science.

How will you make an impact?

This field-based role is responsible for driving sales growth across academic, biotech, pharmaceutical, government, and other life science customers within the assigned Illinois territory.

You will develop existing business while actively identifying and creating new opportunities. Success will come through consistent customer engagement, effective prospecting, scientific and business curiosity, disciplined territory management, and strong collaboration with internal partners.

Because this is a newly established territory, the successful candidate will be energized by building a business: identifying high-potential customers, developing new customer relationships, increasing awareness of our portfolio, and converting competitive and new-account opportunities.

What will you do?

  • Achieve or exceed assigned sales targets by maintaining and growing existing business while developing new customers and opportunities.
  • Build the newly established Illinois territory through proactive prospecting, customer outreach, account mapping, and consistent field engagement.
  • Identify new-account and competitive conversion opportunities across academic, biotech, pharmaceutical, government, and other life science customers.
  • Execute core sales activities including prospecting, qualification, value-based selling, opportunity development, and closing.
  • Develop knowledge of customer applications and workflows to effectively position Thermo Fisher Scientific products and solutions.
  • Partner with technical specialists and other internal resources to deliver product presentations, demonstrations, seminars, and customer solutions.
  • Manage sales opportunities through disciplined pipeline management, including clear next steps, opportunity progression, forecasting, and close plans.
  • Build strong relationships with scientists, lab managers, purchasing stakeholders, and other key customer contacts.
  • Generate demand through regular customer visits, one-on-one meetings, lab engagement, scientific seminars, vendor events, and other customer-facing activities.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal commercial teams, technical specialists, and distribution partners to deliver a coordinated customer experience.
  • Identify competitive activity and execute strategies to win new business and gain market share.
  • Participate in sales meetings, training programs, and other professional development activities.

Operating Cadence and Standard Work

  • Maintain a strong field presence, with customer-facing activity expected approximately 4 days per week across the assigned Illinois territory.
  • Establish a consistent operating rhythm for managing territory performance, including prospecting, funnel management, account planning, and KPI execution.
  • Maintain accurate and timely customer, opportunity, and pipeline information in Salesforce to support forecasting and business visibility.
  • Develop quarterly territory and account plans that identify priority customers, growth opportunities, competitive targets, and actions required to achieve revenue goals.
  • Use available sales and customer data to prioritize activity and identify opportunities for growth.
  • Regularly review territory performance and adjust activities to address gaps and capitalize on emerging opportunities.
  • Share customer feedback, market insights, competitive intelligence, and best practices with internal partners.

Who are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Biology, Life Sciences, or a related scientific field.
  • 2+ years of relevant professional experience in life sciences, laboratory research, biotechnology, scientific sales, or a related field preferred.
