Job Description

Purpose:

The Global Connected Logistics and Internet of Things (IoT) Strategy Lead shapes and advances enterprise capabilities that improve visibility, product protection, sustainability and operational performance across the global distribution and logistics network.

This individual contributor role connects business strategy with practical implementation. The individual will lead global initiatives, coordinate requirements and interdependencies across global functions and regions, and partner with Business Technology Solutions (BTS), external providers and operational teams to deploy solutions that are scalable, viable and fit for purpose. There is a travel element to this role, with business meetings in US and Europe, primarily but not limited to those regions.

The successful candidate will bring a combination of strategic thinking, program leadership, commercial and vendor management, and strong cross-functional influence. The position is designed for an experienced supply chain, logistics, technology-enabled transformation professional and does not require deep engineering expertise in every device or platform.

Responsibilities:

  • Own and continuously develop AbbVie's global connected logistics strategy and multi-year roadmap. This covers shipment visibility, temperature monitoring, RFID, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), geolocation and other monitoring technologies, with the goal of improving product protection, risk management and operational decision-making.
  • Lead the assessment of emerging logistics technologies and monitoring solutions. Work with regional and functional teams to decide which capabilities to pilot, scale globally, integrate into existing processes or phase out, based on business value and operational fit. Lead priority device and IoT initiatives from opportunity definition through implementation, coordinating requirements, milestones, risks and dependencies to speed up deployment and deliver measurable business value.
  • Partner with Business Technology Solutions (BTS) and technology partners to turn business requirements into functional, data and integration requirements. Make sure solutions are scalable, supportable and compliant with Good Distribution Practice (GDP).
  • Manage strategic device, monitoring and technology-provider relationships through performance reviews, roadmap alignment and issue resolution to strengthen service reliability, innovation and value. Own the annual connected logistics budget, including forecasting, spend tracking, vendor invoices, financial reporting and actions to make sure investments deliver expected value.
  • Partner with Global Supply Chain Security, regional teams, third-party logistics providers and freight forwarders to assess emerging threats. Build product protection and transportation security requirements into logistics strategies, operating models and technology deployments. Implement risk-based security standards and solutions (e.g., TAPA). Lead cross-functional initiatives that improve product security, including programs that make high-value products less visible during transportation and distribution. Together, these reduce theft, diversion and other supply chain risks and strengthen supply chain resilience.
  • Evolve the working relationship with EH&S on distribution and logistics sustainability. Support Scope 3 emissions guidance, governance and training for emissions self-reporting across markets and third-party partners, and coordinate Product Carbon Footprint requests, to improve data consistency, adoption and alignment with standards.
  • Engage Distribution Managers, Regional Transportation Management teams and senior cross-functional leaders to address partner performance. Embed requirements, risks and interdependencies into functional, regional and enterprise strategies, enabling clear accountability and timely decisions.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, in preferred fields such as supply chain, logistics, business, engineering, operations, sustainability, information systems or a related field. An advanced degree or relevant professional certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of eight years of progressive experience in supply chain, distribution, logistics, technology-enabled transformation, program management, sustainability, security or a related discipline. Experience in pharmaceuticals, life sciences or another regulated industry is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives from strategy through implementation in a global or multi-regional environment.
  • Experience with one or more of the following areas is preferred: shipment visibility, temperature monitoring, connected devices, IoT, telematics, product or freight security, logistics sustainability, carbon reporting, or vendor-managed technology solutions.
